About Us
Solway Bible Chapel (SBC) goes back to the 1920’s; when the first Bible School was conducted by workers from the American Sunday School Union. After meeting for several years in homes and temporary buildings, a log church building, known as Solway Log Chapel, was completed in the 1930’s. This building, along with its nearby log parsonage, served the congregation for fifty years.
Back in May 31, 1937 our Chapel was dedicated to us by Oak Hills Christan College. There was a note written, "It's just a modest church and small, you would not think it fine at all; but, oh, what joy to gather there and lift our hearts to Him in prayer! The little church among us stands, built by calloused, toil-worn hands; love it, of course for every day it points us to the upward way."
Many pastors and their families have served our congregation through the years, each bringing their special gifts to the spiritual growth of our group and the community. SBC has maintained a long and fruitful association with Oak Hills Christian College over the years. Several of our pastors were graduates of Oak Hills, and some went on to teach there. Many of our young people have attended Oak Hills in preparation for going into the ministry, becoming missionaries, and filling places of leadership in their local churches.
SBC has long supported foreign mission organizations and the people who have committed their lives to this work. Several of our own members have served in Peru, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Japan, Sweden, and other countries.
In 1987, the congregation voted to build a new handicapped accessible facility and shortly thereafter, a new parsonage. Both were completed, with the exception of electrical wiring and sheetrock finishing, by the donated labor of men and women of SBC and friends from the community. The official name of the Solway Log Chapel was then changed to Solway Bible Chapel.
The SBC Family continues its outreach through Sunday morning services, Sunday School classes, children and youth ministries and women’s/men’s Bible studies and prayer groups. We also support community events, which foster good relationships with our neighbors, and have opened our doors to others who have needed our facility for special occasions. We are very thankful for the Lord’s abundant blessings and seek His guidance as we strive to continue His work here and around the world.
